A quick light sanding helps the paint grip better. You don’t need to remove the existing finish — just scuff it slightly.

While paint may feel dry to the touch within a few hours, it actually takes much longer to fully cure and harden. Most interior paints take about 2–4 weeks to fully cure, depending on the paint type and environmental conditions.
Because installing hardware can put pressure on the surface and potentially dent or mark the paint, we chose to wait two full weeks before installing our new interior door handles. This extra patience helps ensure the finish stays smooth and durable.
