It was 7 degrees and cloudy outside when I took these photos; the next day, it was 18 degrees and sunny. Major weather mood swings can only mean one thing: it's spring in Vancouver. I used to find it really challenging to dress for these weather fluctuations; I'd leave the house cold in the morning and then arrive home hot in the afternoon.

After years of living in Vancouver, I've started to rely heavily on transitional wardrobe staples. With just a few key pieces, you can take items you already own and transition them into a completely new season or temperature (even in the same day!)

1) Leather Jacket - Believe it or not, a leather (or leather-like) jacket is a solid spring staple. Leather provides warmth without being overly cumbersome to carry when you get warm and decide to shed a layer or two.

2) A Light Sweater or Cardigan - While this top may not look like it, it's actually a knit t-shirt sweater. I love shirts and cardigans like this because they offer lightweight coverage without having to fully commit to a sweater.

3) Booties - It's not quite sandal weather, but it's not boot weather anymore - enter bootie season.

4) Sunglasses - For sunshine that comes and goes as it pleases.

5) Cotton Denim - Choose a lightweight cotton denim to help your body temperature fluctuate during the day. Bonus: cotton-based denim is super comfortable.
